What exactly is Shilajit, and why combine it with Manuka honey?
Shilajit is a mineral-rich resinous substance that oozes from rocks in high mountain ranges (like the Himalayas and Altai). It forms over centuries from decomposed plant matter and soil, and is revered in Ayurvedic medicine as a potent “rasayana” (rejuvenator). It looks like a black tar and is dense with fulvic acid, humic acid, and over 80 trace minerals that can benefit human health.
Nutrient Boost has taken this ancient superfood and combined it with Raw Manuka Honey, which is a type of honey popular for its antimicrobial and healing properties (Manuka comes from the nectar of the Manuka bush in New Zealand and has unique enzymes like methylglyoxal that confer health benefits). The combination offers a few advantages:
- Better Taste & Usability: Pure shilajit resin is thick and very earthy-bitter. Mixing it with a touch of rich Manuka honey makes the flavor more palatable – a malty, sweet-earthy taste – and the texture smoother (no rock-hard resin issues).
- Synergistic Benefits: Honey has been used as a carrier for herbal remedies for ages. It may help drive the nutrients deeper and adds its own benefits (like supporting the immune system and digestion). Manuka honey in particular has antioxidant and antibacterial qualities, complementing Shilajit’s nutritional profile.
- First to Market: We pioneered this blend to help people incorporate Shilajit easily into their daily routine. You get the full spectrum Shilajit (nothing removed) plus a nutritional bonus from Manuka. It’s a win-win for wellness enthusiasts looking for something truly wholesome and unique. In summary, Shilajit provides the minerals and vitality boost, while Manuka honey provides better taste and additional wellness support, making the product enjoyable as well as highly effective.
How do I use the Shilajit resin manuka honey blend?
Using our Shilajit resin is simple and flexible:
- Standard Use: Scoop out a pea-sized ball of the resin (the included spoon helps measure ~0.3 – 0.5 grams). Drop it into a cup of warm water, hot tea, or warm milk and stir until it dissolves. Drink it up and you’re good to go. Many customers love it in the morning instead of (or alongside) their coffee or tea.
- Direct Use: Because it’s mixed with honey, you can also take it straight. Place the pea-sized piece under your tongue and let it dissolve, or swallow it with a sip of water. The honey makes it much more pleasant than standard Shilajit resin.
- In Smoothies or Foods: Feel free to blend it into a smoothie, yogurt, or even spread that pea-sized amount on a piece of toast. Just don’t cook or boil it, to preserve the nutrients (e.g., don’t mix it into boiling soup on the stove; rather, stir it in after serving).
- Frequency: Once daily is sufficient for most people. If you’re an athlete or looking for an extra boost, you could take it twice (morning and afternoon). We do not recommend more than 2 servings per day due to potency.
- Cycle: There’s no strict need to cycle on/off. Some choose to take it 5-6 days a week and rest on Sundays, or take a week off every couple of months, but it’s up to you.
What does it taste like?
Nutrient Boost Shilajit Resin with Manuka Honey has a rich, malty, slightly earthy-sweet taste. The aroma might remind you of a dark herbal molasses. The honey in it gives it a pleasant sweetness and floral note that balances the natural bitterness of pure Shilajit. Many customers are surprised by how much they enjoy the taste, especially compared to regular Shilajit resin (which on its own can be quite bitter and smoky). Some describe the flavor as “a bit like a strong blackstrap molasses or a dark caramel, with an earthy aftertaste.”
If you take it in water or tea, the drink will taste a bit like a herbal tea sweetened with a bit of dark honey. In warm milk (a popular method), it can taste a little like a caramel latte! Of course, taste is personal – a few people might still find it a unique flavor – but overall the feedback is that this blend is very palatable. If you really don’t care for the taste, you can always swallow it quickly and chase with water or mix it into a smoothie. But we think you’ll grow to enjoy it as part of your daily ritual.
How should I store it, and what if the resin hardens?
Store your Shilajit resin jar in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. A pantry or cupboard is ideal. It is shelf-stable thanks to the honey (which is a natural preservative) – no refrigeration needed (in fact, refrigeration might make it too hard). Keep the lid tightly closed to prevent the honey from absorbing moisture from the air. Over time, it’s possible the resin can thicken or harden a bit, especially in colder weather. If you find it’s less malleable:
- Hardened Resin: Simply warm the jar gently. You can place the whole closed jar in a bowl of hot water for 5-10 minutes to soften it. Or take a spoon and stir it around – the honey will respond to warmth and the texture will loosen.
- If Extremely Hard (rare): Add a few drops of warm water into the jar, then seal and leave it overnight. The moisture will soften the resin by morning. (Just don’t add too much water, to avoid dilution – a few drops will do.)
- Avoid Heat Extremes: Don’t microwave the jar or bake it – high heat can degrade some nutrients. Just gentle warming as described is best. When stored properly, the product will stay good for up to 2 years after opening (though we suspect you’ll finish it before then!). You might notice some crystallization of honey or slight changes in consistency over time, but that doesn’t affect its quality or potency. Always use the dry spoon provided to scoop, to avoid introducing moisture or contamination.
Usage + Safety
Are there any situations or people who shouldn’t take Shilajit?
While Shilajit with honey is a natural food-based supplement and is safe for most, there are a few advisories:
Pregnant or Breastfeeding Women: We do not recommend Shilajit for pregnant or nursing mothers, simply because there isn’t enough research to guarantee safety for the baby. Out of an abundance of caution, it’s best to avoid it during these times unless your healthcare provider specifically okays it. (This is standard for most supplements.
Children: Shilajit is not typically given to children under 18. The doses used traditionally are for adults, and there’s no data for children’s use. Kids have different nutritional needs and sensitivities, so we advise against giving this to a child.
Individuals with Medical Conditions: If you have any chronic illness or serious medical condition – for example, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, or hypertension – consult your doctor before using Shilajit. Generally, Shilajit is benign, but if you’re under a doctor’s care, it’s wise to get their input to make sure it doesn’t interfere with any treatment.
Those on Prescription Medications: As a mineral-rich supplement, Shilajit could potentially enhance the effects of certain drugs or interact in unknown ways. If you take medications (for example, blood pressure meds, blood thinners, or others), check with your healthcare provider. They might advise taking Shilajit at a different time of day than your meds, or monitoring how you feel. (E.g., some practitioners suggest keeping a 2-hour gap between Shilajit and any prescription drug, just to be safe.)
Allergies: Do not use if you are allergic to any components – this includes a known allergy to bees or honey. (Our product contains raw honey.) If you have multiple allergies or sensitivities, introduce it slowly and watch for any reaction, though allergic reactions to pure Shilajit are extremely rare.
In summary, for healthy adults, Shilajit is very low-risk. For special populations (pregnant, kids, or people on meds), it’s best to err on the side of caution and get medical advice.
Can I take this Shilajit resin alongside other supplements or medications?
In general, yes – our Shilajit resin with honey can be taken alongside most vitamins or herbal supplements. It might actually enhance their effectiveness by improving nutrient absorption (thanks to fulvic acid). For example, some people take Shilajit with turmeric or ashwagandha as part of their wellness routine with no issues. However, when it comes to prescription medications, caution is advised:
Shilajit’s fulvic acid can potentially increase the uptake of drugs, which might not always be desired. If you’re on important medications (like for blood pressure, diabetes, blood thinners, etc.), we strongly recommend you consult your healthcare provider first. They might say it’s fine, or they might prefer you separate the dosing (e.g., take your meds in the morning and Shilajit in the afternoon). Everyone’s situation is unique.
If you get the green light from your doctor to use Shilajit, monitor how you feel as you add it in. If you notice any unusual effects, pause and talk to the doctor. We’re just being extra careful here – most people have no interactions or problems (Shilajit has been used safely alongside various remedies in traditional medicine). But modern pharmaceuticals can be complex, so professional guidance is best if you have any doubt.
Can I take Shilajit every day?
Yes, you can take Shilajit every day, and in fact daily use is recommended if you want to experience its full benefits. In traditional usage, Shilajit is often taken daily for months at a time. It’s a bit like taking a daily vitamin or mineral supplement – consistency brings the best outcomes. There’s no known harm in continuous use. Our formula is gentle and designed for daily wellness support. Just stick to the suggested dose (1 pea-sized portion per day, up to 2 maximum if needed). Taking more than recommended won’t necessarily give you more benefit and would just waste this precious resin.
Quality + Sourcing
Where is your Shilajit sourced from and is it sustainable?
We source our Shilajit from the Himalayan region, specifically from high-altitude areas on the border of India and Nepal. This region is renowned for yielding “Gold Grade” Shilajit, considered the highest quality due to the altitude and botanical diversity. Our partners on the ground ethically hand-harvest the resin that seeps from the rocks during warm seasons. Importantly, we collect in a sustainable manner – only taking a portion and allowing the natural deposits to regenerate. We work directly with local experts and villagers, supporting their communities through fair trade practices (so your purchase helps those indigenous collectors as well).
After harvesting, the raw Shilajit is purified with a traditional Ayurvedic technique: it’s dissolved in pure spring water, filtered for any sediments, and sun-dried to a dense resin. No chemical solvents or high heat processing is used, preserving all the active constituents. We then blend it with organic Manuka honey under strict hygienic conditions. The final product is tested and bottled.
As for sustainability: both ingredients, Shilajit and honey, are renewable natural resources when managed properly. We ensure our Shilajit sourcing does not damage the ecosystem – we leave plenty behind and rotate harvest sites. Our Manuka honey comes from certified organic beekeepers who practice sustainable, cruelty-free beekeeping (bees are our friends!). So you can enjoy our product with peace of mind that it’s sourced responsibly from nature, with love and respect.
